Late last night, officers from the Organized Crime Division arrested a 28-year-old Egyptian national in connection with the murder of 73-year-old criminal defense attorney Stavros Georgiou. Witness accounts indicate that the lawyer and the 28-year-old Egyptian were part of the same group on Monday evening. At some point, the two left together, and Georgiou offered to drive the young man home in his car.

Stavros Georgiou: 28-year-old Egyptian confesses to the murder of the criminal lawyer
According to the suspect’s own confession, he and the 73-year-old victim then went to the lawyer’s office, where a violent argument broke out for reasons still unknown, escalating into a physical altercation. The Egyptian man fatally injured Stavros Georgiou during the confrontation. “We argued and I killed him,” he told police. According to reports, the 28-year-old has a prior record for illegal entry into the country and has an outstanding warrant against him for sexual assault of a minor in 2024.
He wanted to cover his tracks
Investigators have obtained security camera footage from the surrounding area — as no cameras were operating inside the office — capturing the criminal lawyer’s final movements on Monday night, with a figure of unidentified gender seen moving nearby. DNA collected from under the victim’s fingernails is considered a key piece of evidence in identifying the 28-year-old suspect. The fact that Stavros Georgiou’s mobile phone was not found at the crime scene — his office on 3rd Septemvriou Street in Agios Panteleimonas — has led authorities to conclude that the Egyptian suspect deliberately attempted to eliminate any trace of his presence.
His daughters found him dead
The highly active and well-respected lawyer was found dead late Tuesday night, when his twin 16-year-old daughters — whom he had been raising alone following the death of their mother and grandmother just a few months earlier — began searching for him along with a relative after he failed to answer their calls.
The building manager of the apartment block where Stavros Georgiou maintained his office opened the door, which he described as being left ajar. The scenes that followed were devastating: the lawyer was found on the floor, naked, in a fetal position, lying in a pool of blood. The office showed no signs of forced entry and no signs of a struggle consistent with a robbery gone wrong.
The Homicide Division immediately took over the case, while forensic investigation teams collected fingerprints and genetic material from the office. The forensic pathologists who examined the body identified severe multiple injuries to the victim’s head and chest, caused by a blunt force object that has not yet been identified or recovered. The full forensic report is expected to clarify the exact mechanism of the injuries and which wounds proved fatal to the 73-year-old attorney.
