Two minors — a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old — remain hospitalized at the University General Hospital of Heraklion (PAGNI) following separate electric scooter accidents in Crete. The first incident occurred on Sunday, June 14, in Dafnes, Heraklion, where the 14-year-old sustained serious injuries while riding an electric scooter. He suffered severe traumatic brain injuries and was transferred to PAGNI, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.
The second incident occurred just hours later, on Monday, June 15, in the Municipality of Agios Vasileios, Rethymno, on the Rodakino–Koumoi road. The 16-year-old lost control of his scooter under unclear circumstances, veered off course, and fell from a bridge at considerable height. As a result of the fall, the teenager sustained injuries to multiple parts of his body and was initially treated at a local medical facility before being transferred to PAGNI.
PAGNI director: 14-year-old extubated after e-scooter accident — 16-year-old in stable condition
According to PAGNI director Giorgos Chalkiadakis, who spoke exclusively to parapolitika.gr, the 14-year-old’s condition has improved and he is responding neurologically, which is why he has been extubated. “He remains in the ICU and I am hopeful he will soon be moved to a regular room,” the director stated. Regarding the 16-year-old, Mr. Chalkiadakis noted that the teenager sustained injuries across his entire body but was never intubated. “His condition is stable,” the director emphasized.
These two incidents, occurring within a single 24-hour period, have reignited the urgent conversation about the need for stricter safety measures and regulations surrounding the use of electric scooters.
