The approval of the Eastern Mediterranean Gateway Act by the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee represents a strong vote of confidence in the strategic importance of the Eastern Mediterranean in the new energy security architecture that Greece is building alongside Cyprus, Israel, and the United States, according to a post by Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastaurou.
Papastaurou: “We are working to make the Eastern Mediterranean a bridge for transatlantic cooperation, regional development, and energy resilience”
“This is yet another step forward,” he adds, “following the particularly substantive meetings we held last Thursday in Houston, within the framework of the 3+1 Energy Ministerial Dialogue, as well as the establishment of the East Med Energy Center (EMEC) — a new institution that aspires to transform our energy cooperation into tangible projects, investments, and innovation. The Eastern Mediterranean is evolving into a space of stability, energy security, and prosperity. We will continue working to make the Eastern Mediterranean a bridge for transatlantic cooperation, regional development, and energy resilience, for the benefit of the people of the wider region.”
