Shocking new details are emerging about the femicide of 45-year-old Antigoni in Drama, Greece. According to reports, the woman had been planning to divorce her husband — also a police officer — and was waiting until their 16-year-old son finished high school before initiating the process.
She never got the chance to follow through. The 45-year-old lost her life after being attacked with a knife by her husband, sustaining multiple stab wounds, one of which proved fatal. The case came to light when the couple’s minor son alerted the authorities.
Drama: Funeral held today for woman murdered by her husband
The funeral of Antigoni is being held today, June 17, 2026, in Nevrokopi — her hometown — at 11:00 a.m. Grief weighs heavily on the family’s two children, who lost both of their parents within just a matter of hours. Following the murder, the perpetrator took his own life. His body was found inside his vehicle, in an isolated area behind Drama’s hospital.
Reports from MEGA television indicate that Antigoni had made up her mind that her marriage was over. She had been trying to “avoid conflict and tension at home” for the sake of her children, and was preparing to file for divorce once her 16-year-old son completed secondary school. She was determined not to let the situation affect his life or his academic performance.
The 50-year-old husband had left the family home three weeks prior and was staying at his parents’ house. However, he had kept a key to the property and frequently visited his estranged wife and children.
As Antigoni’s uncle has since revealed, two weeks before the murder, the husband had threatened the 45-year-old with a loaded firearm. She chose not to report the incident, however, not wanting to jeopardize his career. Antigoni had been trying to help him manage his psychological difficulties and had urged him to seek professional help from a therapist.
Femicide in Drama: Both victim and perpetrator were on medication
Both the victim and her husband had been regularly seeing the same specialist, who had diagnosed stress in both of them and panic attacks in the 50-year-old. Both were reportedly on prescribed medication. Notably, the day before the murder marked the 50-year-old’s final therapy session with his psychologist.
In addition to therapy, the 50-year-old was also a frequent visitor to his spiritual confessor. Antigoni, meanwhile, in an effort to manage the situation as smoothly as possible, had informed his supervisor at work about his condition and had requested at least twice that he be transferred to Thessaloniki on a temporary assignment.
