A unprecedented and highly controversial event is reportedly being planned by American President Donald Trump, who is considering transforming the South Lawn of the White House into a mixed martial arts (MMA) arena. Commemorating both his birthday and the 250th anniversary of American independence, the idea of a spectacular UFC event is being promoted, with the characteristic “cage” to be placed in front of the main entrance of the presidential residence, in an event that has already sparked intense debate.

The temporary “UFC Freedom 250” arena will include 5,000 seats and giant screens for tens of thousands of standing spectators, with the total cost of the venture reaching the astronomical sum of $60,000,000. Behind the idea is Trump’s close, multi-year friendship and political alliance with UFC powerhouse Dana White.
Trump’s return to power coincides with golden billion-dollar contracts for the UFC, as well as a strange institutional penetration, as the sport now enters partnerships with the FBI and State Department.
“Storm” of reactions to the expensive spectacle at the White House
However, the decision to organize such a harsh and expensive spectacle at the White House has unleashed a storm of reactions. Many critics speak of a “birthday party with public funds,” as taxpayers will be burdened with enormous security expenses, at a time when the country is in a state of war and cutting social spending.
At the same time, the show is taking a hit in terms of glamour, as top Hollywood stars such as Dwayne Johnson, Adam Sandler, and Jared Leto reportedly rejected the presidential invitations.
Despite the reactions, the Trump administration appears determined to transform MMA into an official foreign policy tool. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has already signed a special agreement with the UFC, aiming at the global expansion of the sport and utilizing “cage diplomacy” to enhance US influence internationally.
