The situation regarding the wildfire on Paros is showing signs of improvement, however firefighting forces remain on heightened alert as winds are expected to strengthen throughout the day.
Speaking to ERTnews, the deputy spokesperson for the Greek Fire Service, Giannis Artopoios, stated that “the situation with the fire has clearly improved,” while stressing that all available forces remain on standby due to the anticipated increase in wind speeds. It is worth noting that Paros is currently classified under Category 3 on the Fire Danger Forecast Map, meaning the island is at high risk of a fire outbreak today.
According to the spokesperson, seven aerial assets are involved in the firefighting operation — specifically five aircraft and two helicopters, one of which is serving a coordination role. On the ground, 86 firefighters, four forest commando units, and 24 fire trucks are actively deployed across the island.
Ground forces are continuing to be reinforced, with an additional 20 firefighters and eight fire trucks scheduled to arrive by ferry from the port of Rafina.
Mr. Artopoios emphasized that “essentially, there is no active fire front at this moment (09:10 a.m.),” while clarifying that “there are smoke plumes in scattered locations.”

Firefighting crews continued their battle against the flames throughout the night, successfully containing the fire front.
A total of nine residential settlements have been evacuated so far, following four consecutive emergency alerts sent via the 112 emergency notification system.
In the early hours of Wednesday, residents were ordered to evacuate the areas of Trypiti, Glyfa, Pyrgaki, and Aspro Chorio, with residents directed toward Dryos, while shortly before that an alert had been issued for Agkairia, directing residents toward Alyki beach. Since Tuesday afternoon, the areas of Agios Charalampos, Kambi, Bougados, Aneratza, and Kamari had already been evacuated.
