Shortly after his swearing-in as Deputy Finance Minister, Dimitris Markopoulos sends his own message through parapolitika.gr ahead of assuming his new duties.
After first referring to the government’s tax policy and the tax reductions achieved so far, he emphasizes that “misery and toxicity may sell, but my goal is to speak with facts through persistence and hard work, with open office doors and continuous presence in society. Many of the beneficial measures we have taken have not been fully established. However, I absolutely do not accept that this government lacks a pro-people character.”
He also notes that “as Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance, I am preparing to fight the public battle and build, under the Prime Minister’s leadership and the guidance of Finance Minister and Eurogroup President Kyriakos Pierrakakis, a political barrier against the opposition’s leveling tactics.”
Dimitris Markopoulos to parapolitika.gr: “I absolutely do not accept that this government lacks a pro-people character”
“The time has come to tell the truth about the economy and the daily struggle with even greater intensity. Not through sloganeering, but with facts. The government that reduced 83 taxes doesn’t relieve the people with words but with actions. Empty words can be found in the theater of a colorful opposition that doesn’t even have an economic program. Citizens’ taxes now serve their purpose as they return as relief measures and continuous wage and pension increases. Tax reductions and combating tax evasion mean real money for households and small-medium enterprises.
Misery and toxicity may sell, but my goal is to speak with facts through persistence and hard work, with open office doors and continuous presence in society. Many of the beneficial measures we have taken have not been fully established. However, I absolutely do not accept that this government lacks a pro-people character. As Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance, I am preparing to fight the public battle and build, under the Prime Minister’s leadership and the guidance of Finance Minister and Eurogroup President Kyriakos Pierrakakis, a political barrier against the opposition’s leveling tactics.”
