Unrest has been caused in recent days in Ilion, following a street attack on a 50-year-old woman by a 30-year-old driver. Specifically, the 50-year-old woman encountered an obstacle from a 30-year-old driver coming from the opposite direction, and the incident escalated when the driver demanded that the woman reverse, which she refused, citing the danger of collision with passing vehicles on the main road behind her.
The 50-year-old then told him to leave, resulting in the 30-year-old getting out of his car, going to her window and punching her in front of her underage daughter who was sitting in the back seat.
Ilion: The 30-year-old was transferred to psychiatric hospital but released
According to authorities, the perpetrator of the attack was located through his vehicle and arrested. However, on prosecutor’s orders, he was transferred to a psychiatric hospital for involuntary hospitalization, as doctors determined that he required psychiatric care.
Nevertheless, he was released and the prosecutor will decide on further action. Until then, he will continue to circulate, drive and remain a public danger.
What Konstantia Dimogllidou said
“The woman went to the local police station shortly after 12:00 at night and reported the incident, that she suffered an unprovoked attack and dangerous bodily harm. The 30-year-old man was located, after initially locating the vehicle, which does not belong to him,” police spokesperson Konstantia Dimogllidou told Mega, adding: “It belongs to a woman, but there was a transfer process that had not been completed, so we initially found the vehicle owner.
This man was located the next morning, just a few hours after the woman’s complaint. However, on the prosecutor’s orders, he was transferred to a psychiatric hospital, examined and remained there for treatment. He was subsequently released,” Ms. Dimogllidou added, noting that he had been hospitalized before in the past.
According to legislation, a driver’s license can be revoked or not issued if it is determined that a mental condition affects safe driving ability. This is evaluated by competent medical committees, taking into account whether the condition is controlled with treatment and whether the patient has relapses.
