A new earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale struck at 05:13 early Monday morning in northern Euboea, causing concern among local residents. The tremor was recorded just hours after a series of weaker earthquakes, ranging from 3 to 3.5 on the Richter scale, that had occurred during the night.
According to seismological services data, the earthquake’s epicenter was located 9 kilometers southwest of Prokopi, while the focal depth was calculated at 17 kilometers.
Preceded by weaker tremors
Earlier, consecutive seismic tremors were recorded in the broader Euboea region. The strongest of these, measuring 3.4 on the Richter scale, occurred at 03:00 in the early morning, with an epicenter approximately 6 kilometers southwest of Prokopi and a focal depth of 11.2 kilometers. The seismic tremors were felt in several areas of northern Euboea, without any reported problems.
At 03:05, another 3.5 Richter tremor followed, 8 km WSW of Prokopi with a focal depth of 15.5 km.
At 03:29 and 03:34, two more earthquakes of 2.8 and 3 Richter were recorded, the first 8km SW of Prokopi and the second 5 km WNW of Prokopi, Euboea. The tremors had focal depths of 13.3km and 1.7km respectively.
At 03:52, a new tremor shook Euboea measuring 3 on the Richter scale in the same area.
So far, no damage or injuries have been reported, while the earthquakes were felt both in Euboea and Attica.
5.2 Richter earthquake in Euboea
The tremors follow a series of stronger earthquakes, culminating in a 5.2 Richter quake that was felt in several areas of Attica on Sunday. The recent tremor is part of the intense seismic activity recorded on Sunday afternoon in northern Euboea.
Initially, a 4.8 Richter earthquake was recorded, with an epicenter 6 kilometers south of Prokopi. This was followed shortly after by a second 4.3 Richter tremor in the same area.
The strongest tremor occurred a few minutes later, reaching 5.2 on the Richter scale, also near Prokopi, causing concern among residents and being felt across a large part of Euboea as well as in Attica. After the main earthquakes, three more aftershocks of approximately 3 Richter were recorded in the broader area.
