The ceasefire agreement was violated after Israel‘s attack on Sunday, June 7, in Lebanon’s Dahieh area, believed to contain a Hezbollah command center. However, Benjamin Netanyahu announced it was a response to rockets fired first by the organization. “The army is currently conducting strikes against terrorist command centers in the Dahieh area of Beirut, in response to Hezbollah’s fire toward Israeli territory,” stated a joint announcement from the Israeli Defense Minister and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Meanwhile, Donald Trump spoke to NBC in an interview broadcast on Sunday, June 7, calling for Israel to conduct “a more surgical attack against Hezbollah,” while emphasizing he hopes “Lebanon will experience a better life.”

Israel: Two dead and 11 wounded
ANI, Lebanon’s official news agency, reported that two apartments in the Tahouitat al-Ghadir neighborhood were targeted. Other state media outlets reported that the initial toll from the Israeli attacks was two dead and 11 wounded. An AFP photographer witnessed two apartments on a narrow street that had sustained damage and panicked residents fleeing in vehicles, creating traffic jams. These strikes are the first since May 28 in this area, known as Dahieh. However, some residents have not yet returned, despite the cessation in April of massive Israeli raids that had targeted the area. After today’s attacks, those who had returned began leaving again, fearing a new escalation.

The Israeli military had announced earlier on Sunday, June 7, that two rockets were fired from Lebanon toward Israeli territory and were intercepted. Israel had warned on Thursday, June 4, that it would strike Beirut in case of Hezbollah attacks against its territory. When asked by AFP, the Israeli military clarified that these were not the first rockets fired at Israeli territory since the ceasefire announcement on Wednesday, June 3. Hezbollah, however, has not yet claimed responsibility for these rocket attacks. This ceasefire does not appear to be holding, just as happened with the previous one on April 17. However, after the attack, Ebrahim Rezai, a member of parliament in Israel, wrote on his X platform post that Tehran would give a “painful” response to Israel’s attacks on Beirut’s southern suburbs.
