Donald Trump described a House of Representatives resolution as an “unpatriotic” action that disrupts negotiations with Tehran, as he criticized today a measure passed yesterday by Congress ordering the withdrawal of American forces deployed in the Middle East as part of the war against Iran. “Who would do something so unpatriotic? They know where the negotiations stand,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Trump: they would rather see our country fail than give me another victory
“Congress directs the president to withdraw U.S. armed forces from hostilities against the Islamic Republic of Iran,” summarizes yesterday’s resolution text.
However, the measure passed with votes from four Republican congressmen has only symbolic significance, as it has no chance of continuation given the American president’s veto power. The Democrats “would rather see our country fail than give me another victory,” said the Republican president, harshly criticizing the four Republican representatives who voted for the measure.
Although American law allows the president to order hostilities in exceptional cases to address immediate threats, it simultaneously requires seeking and obtaining Congressional approval within 60 days.
In early May, Donald Trump ignored this deadline, arguing that the war that erupted on February 28th with American-Israeli bombardments had ended: a ceasefire is in effect.
Democrats dispute the president’s claim, emphasizing that American armed forces remain in the region, particularly to enforce the blockade of Iranian ports.
