Donald Trump confirmed on Truth Social that talks with Iran continue at “rapid pace,” shortly after announcing the Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire agreement in Lebanon. The US President wrote: “Talks continue, at rapid pace, with the Islamic Republic of Iran. Thank you for your attention to this matter.” This particular post seems like the twilight of a major day, during which much happened, from threats to witticisms.
Donald Trump: The ceasefire announcement
Specifically, a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah was announced on Monday afternoon, June 1st by Donald Trump, essentially satisfying a demand from Iran, which reportedly had suspended talks due to IDF attacks in Lebanon. The US President announced that he spoke with both Benjamin Netanyahu and representatives of the Lebanese organization and confirmed the agreement. “I had a very constructive phone conversation with Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu of Israel, and no troops will be sent to Beirut, while any troops that are en route have already turned back,” Trump stated in a Truth Social post. “Likewise, through high-level representatives, I had a very good phone conversation with Hezbollah and they agreed that all shooting will stop – that Israel will not attack them and that they will not attack Israel,” he added. If the discussion with Hezbollah officials is true, Trump became the first American President in history to speak with them.

Donald Trump: “The blockade is steel-solid”
This particular move could restore messages from Iran to the US through intermediaries for their own agreement. In any case, US President Donald Trump expressed the view that contacts and public statements regarding talks between the United States and Iran have reached an excessive level, in an interview with NBC News. Responding to a related question, the American President initially stated that he had not received official notification from Tehran about suspending negotiations with Washington. However, he later emphasized that talks continue at rapid pace.
He had already emphasized that he believed the ongoing public discussion around the issue did not contribute to the progress of contacts. “To tell the truth, I think we talk too much. I think keeping quiet would be very good and this could last for a long time,” Trump characteristically stated, speaking to NBC. He made clear that he doesn’t care about the potential collapse of peace negotiations with Iran, telling CNBC: “Frankly, I don’t care if they’re over.” “Honestly I don’t care. I couldn’t care less,” he stated characteristically.
For its part, Iran doesn’t appear to have stopped considering the renewed closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the possibility of activating additional fronts in the region, including the strategically important Bab el-Mandeb Strait, in cooperation with the Resistance Front.

Trump on Strait of Hormuz: “I think I can wait as long as they want, they’re losing a fortune”
Trump also told CNBC that he would “ask” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about “what’s happening with Lebanon.” The American president also stated that he’s not worried about oil prices, which soared after Iranian state media published that Tehran is committed to “completely blocking” the Strait of Hormuz, in addition to suspending negotiations. “I believe oil prices will fall dramatically in the immediate future, very soon,” Trump specifically stated.
“I think I can wait as long as they want. They’re losing a fortune,” the American president argued.
Earlier, Iranian agency Tasnim reported that Iran is suspending indirect negotiations with the US, after Israel ordered its military to penetrate deeper into Lebanon, complicating diplomatic efforts to end the war. Trump said Iranians are better negotiators than fighters but he himself had not been informed that they were suspending talks.
“Iran really wants to reach an agreement and it will be favorable to the US”
“Iran really wants to reach an agreement, and this will be favorable to the US and those who stand by our side. But don’t the Democrats and various seemingly unpatriotic Republicans understand that it’s MUCH harder for me to do my job right and negotiate, when political types keep ‘screaming’ negatively, at levels never seen before, again and again, that I should move faster, or slower, or go to war, or not go to war, or anything else. Just sit back and relax, everything will be fine in the end – it always is! President DJT”.
What Trump demands from Iran
It should be noted that Iran’s chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned yesterday, Sunday (31/05) that no agreement with Washington will be approved without guarantees for the Iranian people’s rights. Specifically, as reported by the Guardian, the head of the Iranian team in negotiations with Washington stated in a video broadcast by Iranian media: “We will not approve any agreement as long as we don’t have certainty that the Iranian people’s rights are fully guaranteed”.
“There is no trust in the enemy’s words and promises. Our only criterion is achieving tangible results before fulfilling our own commitments in return,” he explained during his swearing-in as president of the Iranian parliament after his re-election to the post.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump reportedly is hardening his stance toward Tehran, demanding additional concessions beyond those included in the draft memorandum that the negotiating teams of both countries reportedly have reached.
Trump demands from Iran more specific commitments regarding the Iranian nuclear program, and more specifically a clear framework for managing enriched uranium stockpiles, the method by which the material will be removed or placed under control, as well as a specific timeline.
According to the Axios website, Trump seeks greater strictness in Washington’s position, mainly on the issue of Tehran’s nuclear fuel.
Iran considers the lifting of American sanctions and the unfreezing of Iran’s frozen assets fundamental rights for which there must be guarantees in any agreement concluded with the US. Iran, since the war began, has imposed strict control over the Strait of Hormuz. In response, the US has imposed a naval blockade of Iranian ports and coasts since April 13th.
