Stefanos Kasselakis, president of the “Democrats – Progressive Center” party, is conducting a visit to Heraklion, Crete, making contacts from early Wednesday morning 20/05. During a press conference, he addressed Crete’s problems while criticizing the government.
Stefanos Kasselakis: Crete demands infrastructure
“Crete demands infrastructure, from the road network to water supply, from managing tourism carrying capacity to local planning and cultural heritage management,” Stefanos Kasselakis stated, emphasizing that “solutions exist, but unfortunately the current government has shown no political will. Otherwise, the daily issues experienced by everyone – whether private sector workers, small and medium entrepreneurs, freelancers, or farmers – wouldn’t exist.”
The Democrats’ president linked addressing these problems to the need for political change in upcoming elections, stating characteristically: “The only way to fix these problems is political change. Political change will come in the next elections. The ‘Democrats’ are running with confidence as the only anti-establishment, rational solution for progress, against a system of interests, power-seeking, and constitutional deviations.”
He also referenced his personal case regarding wealth declarations, which – as he said – led to “character assassination” against him, emphasizing that he was vindicated in court.
Earlier, Mr. Kasselakis met with both Heraklion Mayor Alexis Kalokairinos and Crete Regional Governor Stavros Arnaoutakis, discussing development, infrastructure, and economic issues, as well as matters directly connected to citizens’ daily lives. He also met with citizens during a visit to the city center. In the evening, he will speak at an open political event themed “Justice and political developments.”
Mr. Kasselakis’ visit to Eastern Crete will last until next Friday 22-5-2026, and among the areas he will visit are Viannos, Ierapetra, Agios Nikolaos, and Arkalochori.
