Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis revealed that there were more than 20 communications between PASOK president Nikos Androulakis and Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis regarding the Independent Authorities issue. According to Marinakis, an agreement had been reached between the two sides, which was subsequently not honored.
As he explained, New Democracy, “through Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis, obviously in coordination with the Prime Minister,” made a proposal to PASOK to find the necessary votes so that “the country could have Independent Authorities.” He noted that he does not wish for a mobile phone display procedure, but emphasized that “mobile applications and calls have a history,” and that Nikos Androulakis “in the last quarter, I don’t know if he spoke 30 times, but he certainly spoke more than 20 times,” referring to both calls and messages.
He also commented that these communications were institutional, characteristically stating that “they did very well to speak institutionally, because only this way will the country have independent authorities,” adding with a sarcastic tone that he doesn’t know if they also discussed “the playoff progress” or “the final-four.” According to the government spokesperson, after these contacts and the exchange of CVs, the two parties agreed on two individuals: “one that our parliamentary group wanted more, Mr. Makrydimitris, and one that PASOK wanted, Ms. Siggouna.”
He argued that “after all these communications and exchange of calls, Mr. Androulakis became afraid that his potential partners would scold him in Parliament for talking to the evil right,” adding that “Mr. Androulakis had agreed on Mr. Makrydimitris.” Finally, he noted that for this reason “Mr. Kaklamanis, the Parliament Speaker, didn’t go crazy and read these two names,” arguing that if there was no agreement, he would not have proceeded with their announcement.
