New Democracy shows impressive growth in electoral strength, reaching 32.2% in voting intention, according to the Marc poll presented by “Proto Thema”. This percentage marks an increase of almost four points compared to the party’s performance in the European elections. Meanwhile, acceptance of government policy is strengthening, with positive evaluation of the government rising to 38.5% and the prime minister to 39.1%, approaching the levels of the 2023 national elections.

Timeline and conditions of the survey
The polling data collection began on April 23, one day after Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced the support package due to the conflict in the Persian Gulf. These measures gathered high acceptance from citizens, with percentages ranging from 43.8% to 58.5% characterizing them as very or quite significant. On the same day, parliamentary votes took place for lifting immunity of thirteen New Democracy MPs regarding the OPEKEPE case, a process that was completed without particular problems for the governing party. Additionally, statements from European Prosecutor Laura Kovesi regarding corruption issues were heard from Delphi. The survey was completed on April 28, immediately after French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Athens, which was accompanied by strong statements of defensive support for Greece against Turkish aggression.
Which support measures citizens value most
Citizens consider the most important measures to be the emergency support of families with 150 euros per child, as well as the increase in support for low-pension recipients from 250 to 300 euros. Concern about potential risks due to the Gulf war reflects citizens’ psychology in this poll as well. More than 8 out of 10 declare they are worried “very much” or “quite a lot” and the main reason for concern is inflation and potential product shortages. In this context, it’s interesting that 22.1% say the government “does everything it can to limit inflation, with all the means at its disposal,” while there’s also 33.9% who state that the government “tries, but more drastic measures and controls are needed” – they don’t have a negative stance towards it, despite the fact that only 24.4% declare they benefit very much or quite a lot from the support measures announced by the prime minister.
