According to the UK Maritime Trade Operations Center and maritime security sources, at least three container cargo ships came under fire in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has imposed restrictions on ships crossing the Strait, initially responding to American-Israeli attacks and subsequently responding to the naval blockade imposed by the US on Iranian ports.
The bridge of the Greek-owned cargo ship EPAMINONDAS, flying under the Liberian flag, sustained damage from bullets and rockets in the maritime zone northeast of Oman. The ship had been informed that it had permission to cross the Strait of Hormuz, according to intelligence company Vanguard Tech. UKMTO announced that a Revolutionary Guards gunboat approached without radio warning and then opened fire, causing serious damage to the bridge. No fire broke out and the crew is unharmed.
Strait of Hormuz: Fire also against third container cargo ship
The Iranian news agency Tasnim reported that the ship “ignored warnings from Iranian military forces.”
Later, UKMTO reported that a second container ship also came under fire while sailing eight nautical miles west of Iran. The cargo ship flying under the Panamanian flag sustained no damage and the crew is unharmed.
According to maritime security sources, a third container cargo ship under the Liberian flag also came under fire while sailing eight nautical miles west of Iran crossing the Strait of Hormuz. The ship stopped sailing. The crew is safe.
