A 46-year-old man suspected of child pornography was arrested in Athens after organizing cycling activities and mountain bike routes for minors, posting photos from these excursions on an online group he had created. The 46-year-old was arrested at his home in Cholargos by the Cybercrime Unit, as police found 171 files containing audiovisual material of child sexual abuse in his possession.
During an on-site search of his residence last Thursday in the presence of a judicial officer, four hard drives were seized containing hundreds of thousands of images and videos with material depicting sexual abuse of children under 12 years old. According to police sources cited by ERT, the arrested man had created a social media group through which he organized cycling activities and mountain bike routes for minors in areas such as Mount Hymettus and Mount Parnitha, frequently posting related material from these excursions.
Child pornography case: How the 46-year-old operated
The 46-year-old pedophile had previously attracted the attention of authorities in 2013 for a similar case, and was reportedly free on restrictive conditions. The case was uncovered following international cooperation, as the investigation began after a tip from Europol, which identified digital traces of a user from Greece who had downloaded child abuse material on an online storage platform.
The tip emerged as part of an operation by Swedish and Australian authorities.
