The celebrations for Easter Sunday have begun in Athens, with lamb spits and kokoretsi being set up in many household courtyards and public squares. From early morning, spits have been erected in the center of Athens, specifically in Monastiraki Square, as happens every year, with shopkeepers sharing traditional delicacies.
According to shopkeepers in Monastiraki, they expect to roast a total of more than 150 lambs, while some establishments plan to roast as many as 30 each.
The roasting begins in the early morning hours and is done over low fire to ensure an even result. The first appetizers are expected around late morning, approximately at 11:00 AM, with activity in the area gradually increasing as the hours pass.
The atmosphere is completed by the aromas of the spit-roasted meat and the smoke spreading throughout the area, creating the image of an Easter feast in public space. Regarding the weather, the day began with clouds, however gradual improvement is expected, with temperatures remaining at mild levels.
