Just days before Easter, Greek police conducted a wave of arrests across various regions of the country for firecrackers, flares, fireworks and explosives. The arrests were made following police operations that uncovered large quantities of dangerous materials.

Multiple arrests in Aetolia-Acarnania and Ilia for firecrackers
Specifically, in Aetolia-Acarnania and Pyrgos, Ilia, police arrested two men and one woman, with authorities filing charges against them for possession and manufacture of explosives, violations of explosives and weapons legislation, after finding fireworks, firecrackers and other materials in their possession.
In particular, in Messolonghi, during searches of suspects’ homes, police discovered 58 firecrackers in a warehouse, more than five kilograms of explosive materials, a precision electronic scale and equipment allegedly used for manufacturing fireworks. In a second house in the same area, they found another 65 flares and a flare gun.
Meanwhile, in Pyrgos, Ilia, a search of a woman’s shop revealed 17 boxes containing a total of 400 firecrackers, prompting immediate police intervention.
Kilkis: 54-year-old woman arrested for illegally keeping flares and signal rockets
Additionally, another arrest was made on Holy Wednesday (08/04) in Kilkis, where a 54-year-old woman was found illegally keeping flares and signal rockets. During the inspection of her shop, 38 flares, 4 firecrackers and one smoke grenade were confiscated, while five more flares were found at her residence.
Authorities continue conducting inspections throughout the country ahead of Easter holidays to limit the illegal distribution and use of dangerous fireworks.
