After the departure from Koumoundourou of SYRIZA‘s deputy press spokesperson Grigoris Theodorakis, as well as Alekos Flambouraris’ close associate Stelios Apostolou, to join Alexis Tsipras’ team, a “tsunami” of party officials followed, declaring their readiness to abandon their party and join the new political formation.
However, sources say the former prime minister conveyed that it’s too early for any moves, as everything is still fluid at Amalias Street. As expected, there was dissatisfaction from some officials who feel they have exposed themselves in favor of Alexis Tsipras without receiving a response. Sources indicate that in the last 24 hours, discussions within Tsipras’ team have centered on whether the former prime minister should announce his party sometime in July, so that by September he’ll be ready to respond to Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ narrative at the Thessaloniki International Fair.
Tryfon Alexiadis’ explosive letter to Tsipras: Clarify if you want SYRIZA to exist – “Barb” about the “closed ILLUMINATI group”
Meanwhile, the internal party war in SYRIZA continues over whether the Koumoundourou party will align with Alexis Tsipras in the next elections. In this context, Tryfon Alexiadis appeared in Efimerida ton Syntakton with an article he characterizes as a personal letter to Alexis Tsipras, seeking answers about SYRIZA’s future. After initially criticizing the former prime minister about his associates, saying that today he’s surrounded by people who were political enemies of SYRIZA, he notes: “A personal letter, then, to speak with honesty and emotion, because I’M WORRIED! I hoped and continue to hope that you’ll appear at a Central Committee meeting to explain, discuss, listen, so we can continue together the effort for the progressive coalition we decided on (when you were president) or to clarify if you want SYRIZA to exist, if you want to discuss with the party that is MAINLY your creation.” Tryfon Alexiadis’ reference to speaking with Alexis Tsipras at some Central Committee meeting seems more like science fiction than a possibility, since the former prime minister has left SYRIZA to create his own party.
He then appears to criticize Alexis Tsipras for wanting to create a party without factions and currents, saying: “There’s a need, however, to clarify if the new political formation (if-when-how) will have a constitution? Will it have currents of ideas? Will everyone have the same opinion about the role of the Public Power Corporation and the banking system, or will we do what the entire civilized world does, namely discuss democratically within parties any disagreements? And will the leader have his own closed ILLUMINATI group, which, disconnected from members, departments, networks, will formulate proposals? Let me remind you that from the famous think tanks and experts since 2019, not 1-2 (?) significant proposals emerged, and some of these officials (with tolerance from the then leadership) wouldn’t even deign to discuss elaborations and proposals with our party’s departments!”
And he concludes: “Dear Alexis, my proposal is simple. Proceed in the direction and with the team you choose. Reconsider, however, the need for a course change in the port that has capable officials, a program, procedures, organization. Or at least let us understand if and how you want us to continue.” Many argue that Tryfon Alexiadis had a dual target with his “letter.” First, to expose Alexis Tsipras to leftist voters, showing that he’s responsible for SYRIZA’s dissolution. Additionally, he exposes Socrates Famellos with the logic that he’s asking Alexis Tsipras to clarify his position on the next steps his party will take, while the Koumoundourou leader should have done this.
Let’s recall that today the Political Secretariat convenes, while Saturday sees the Central Committee meeting. There, many believe there will be a harsh confrontation between Polakis’ side and Socrates Famellos.
