“In a spirit of European solidarity,” French President Emmanuel Macron took the initiative this morning to communicate successively with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, according to diplomatic sources in Paris. According to the same sources, the three leaders agreed to coordinate their actions regarding the deployment of military assets to Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean and to work together to ensure free navigation in the Red Sea.

At the same time, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had a phone conversation with the French President moments ago. As announced by the Italian government, the main topics of discussion were developments in the conflict in Iran, with its implications for the Middle East and on an international scale, as well as regarding free navigation. “Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and President Macron reiterated their joint commitment to support the Gulf Countries, which are affected by Iran’s unjustified attacks, and in favor of Cyprus’s security, as well as to avoid military escalation in Lebanon,” the Italian government’s announcement added.
