The weather today Saturday 28/2 is characterized by light cloud cover, locally and intermittently increased, according to the EMY forecast. More intense cloudiness is expected in the Ionian islands, the mainland (except eastern Macedonia and Thrace), Evia, the Cyclades and Crete, where weak local rains will occur, mainly in the southwest.
Visibility will be locally limited in the Ionian and mainland areas during morning and evening hours, while frost will occur locally in central and northern mainland areas early in the morning.
Winds in the west and north will blow from easterly directions 3 to 4 and locally up to 5 Beaufort. In the rest of the country, northerly winds of 4 to 6 Beaufort will prevail, while in the Aegean they will reach locally 7 Beaufort.
Temperature will not show significant change and will remain slightly below normal levels for the season, reaching 11 to 14 degrees in the north and 15 to 16 degrees Celsius in the rest of the country.
However, from next week a noticeable temperature rise is expected, with mercury touching 17 to 18 degrees Celsius, as anticyclonic conditions will prevail that suggest a more spring-like scenario.
Weather: How the next days will unfold
Meteorologist Theodoros Kolydas notes that Friday’s temperature remained slightly below normal levels, but within natural deviations, with a small rise over the weekend. From next week, however, the rise will be more noticeable, with values reaching 17 to 18 degrees Celsius.
The scenario will include local cloudiness, temporarily increased, without substantial rains, while in the Aegean northerly winds will blow reaching 6 to 7 Beaufort.

“Atmospheric mountain” brings spring weather
For his part, meteorologist Giorgos Tsatrafyllias speaks of an “atmospheric mountain” that “establishes spring weather”.
As he notes, the weekend will pass with scattered drizzle, cold and increased cloudiness. However, with March’s arrival, anticyclonic conditions prevail, which means that the first week of the month will feature considerable sunshine and rising temperatures.
The light northerly winds, as he mentions, will keep the atmosphere clear, creating conditions that favor outdoor activities and suggest a more spring-like scenario.
What is an “atmospheric mountain”
The so-called “atmospheric mountain” or anticyclone is a high-pressure system, meaning an extensive area where atmospheric pressure is higher compared to surrounding areas.
It is characterized by downward air movements from upper layers toward the surface. As air descends, it compresses, warms and dries, resulting in cloud dissolution and significantly reduced probability of rain and storms.
This creates a “shield” of stable weather that often blocks the arrival of bad weather and brings sunshine, weak winds and mild temperatures.
The weather forecast
Clouds are expected but also significant periods of sunshine. Local rains will occur until noon in Central Macedonia, eastern Thessaly and Sterea and the Peloponnese, and from noon onwards in western mainland areas and the Peloponnese.
Temperature in Macedonia will range from 0 to 11 degrees Celsius, in Thrace from -1 to 12, in Thessaly from 3 to 13, in Epirus from 3 to 15, in Sterea from 1 to 16, in the Peloponnese from 5 to 16, in the Ionian islands from 8 to 16, in the North and East Aegean islands from 2 to 11, in the Cyclades from 6 to 12, in the Dodecanese from 7 to 13, and in Crete from 2 to 15 degrees Celsius.
Winds in the Aegean will blow from northerly directions 4 to 6 Beaufort. In the Ionian, winds will blow from variable directions 2 to 4 Beaufort.
In Attica, clouds are expected but also periods of sunshine, mainly from noon onwards. Winds will blow from northerly directions 3 to 5 Beaufort. Temperature in central Athens will range from 7 to 12 degrees Celsius.
In Thessaloniki region, clouds are expected while until morning there is possibility of weak and temporary rains. Winds will blow from variable directions up to 3 Beaufort. Temperature in central Thessaloniki will range from 7 to 11 degrees Celsius.
