The USS Gerald R. Ford, the world’s largest aircraft carrier, is now sailing off the northern coasts of Israel, as the United States strengthens its military presence in the Middle East, awaiting Donald Trump’s decisions on potential action against Iran. It should be noted that Trump ordered the deployment of the carrier strike group to the Middle East earlier this month as part of a broader military reinforcement in the region. The aircraft carrier departed yesterday, Thursday (26/02) from Crete, where it had made a refueling stop at a U.S. naval base, and is now heading towards the port of Haifa.

USS Gerald Ford: No problem with ship’s sanitation system, US says
Meanwhile, the U.S. Navy recently denied reports suggesting a crisis in the ship’s sanitation system. In its statement, it notes that “in recent weeks, reports have expressed concerns about ship systems, including sanitation facilities. Navy officials state that the Gerald R. Ford’s systems are operating within expected parameters for a Ford-class aircraft carrier with a crew of over 4,000 people. During this mission, the Vacuum Collection, Holding and Transfer (VCHT) system has managed more than six million toilet uses. Ship leadership reports that clogging incidents are immediately addressed by trained damage control personnel and engineers, with minimal downtime.”
“On a ship of this size, with such a large number of sailors, clogs will occur,” stated the aircraft carrier’s captain, Commander David Scarozzi. “What matters is how quickly they are resolved. Maintenance teams respond immediately and the system continues to operate as designed, with no impact on operational readiness or our ability to execute our mission. I deal daily with every issue concerning the health, welfare, and morale of the crew,” he added.

Large military buildup in the Middle East
Washington continues to strengthen its military presence in the broader Middle East, in anticipation of a potential strike against Tehran. According to data from flight tracking systems, at least two dozen fighter aircraft—including F-35 and F-15 types—have crossed the Atlantic Ocean from the United States. These aircraft are expected to be integrated into squadrons already deployed at military bases in Middle Eastern and European countries, such as Israel and Jordan.

An additional destroyer, the USS John Finn, has joined the fleet of 11 other warships already operating in the northern Arabian Sea, the Gulf of Oman, and the Persian Gulf, according to one of the officials. These also include the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, as well as seven other destroyers and three coastal combat ships.
