The Athens Medical Association (AMA) and its president, Giorgos Patoulis, are planning to request permanent and organized police presence at major emergency hospitals of the National Health System across the country from Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis.
The AMA has already requested a meeting with Michalis Chrysochoidis, with the discussion between the two parties focusing on the increasing cases of violence against healthcare personnel within National Health System hospitals and Health Centers across the country, according to the AMA.
AMA: “Cases of aggressive behavior have multiplied”
In a related announcement, the AMA “expresses its intense concern about the escalating violence recorded in public hospitals and Health Centers across the country, as more and more complaints about verbal and physical attacks against doctors and healthcare workers come to its attention”.
The Association adds: “Recently, particularly in major emergency hospitals, cases of aggressive behavior have multiplied, creating a dangerous and absolutely unacceptable work environment for healthcare professionals, as well as unsafe conditions for the patients themselves”.
