Ilias Papaggelis, who lost his daughter Anastasia in the Tempe rail tragedy, expresses his support for Maria Karystianou. “We must get close to the core of power, maybe we can manage to change something. Not only for our own case, but for the whole world,” says Mr. Papaggelis, speaking to parapolitika.gr about Ms. Karystianou’s involvement with politics.
Ilias Papaggelis: All major moves around the Tempe case are due to Ms. Karystianou
“All the major moves around the Tempe case are due to Ms. Karystianou. We must acknowledge this. We, the rest of us, could not have done this. Everything will depend on the people she will have beside her and how what she creates will be organized,” Mr. Papaggelis notes.
“There were politicians who were with us and we cannot turn our backs on them – It must be done by everyone together”
“I’m waiting to see what form all this that Ms. Karystianou has announced will take, because we still don’t know anything. Neither which people will participate, nor if there will be cooperation with other parties. I would like all those who helped us to be present. Because there were politicians who were with us. We cannot turn our backs on them. If something like this happens, it must be done by everyone together. They didn’t come for votes. They cried with us. I cannot see ulterior motives in what they did then, two or two and a half years ago. I don’t think they were thinking about the ’27 elections to gather votes. They did it humanely. We cannot ignore these people,” Mr. Papaggelis emphasizes. It should be noted that earlier in a Facebook post he wrote: “We should not forget all those who came beside us from the beginning, practically, humanely, not for votes, like Ms. Konstantopoulou, Mr. Velopoulos, Mr. Natsios, Mr. Kasselakis and other personalities from other parties.”
Regarding the dispute that has erupted among the relatives of Tempe victims, Mr. Papaggelis says: “All this is selfishness, the characteristic of our race. Everyone thinks they are right, everyone thinks they know the truth. But it’s not like that.”
Finally, regarding the Tempe trials that are underway, even before the big trial in Larissa begins, Mr. Papaggelis explains that they are being conducted “to achieve what they want: ‘divide and rule.’ To acquit them all. To support their narrative that they did everything right. In fact, in the trial at Evelpidon, none of us had been notified. We learned at the last minute. When, moreover, the president realized that the state was defending two defendants and not the victims, he said ‘what are we doing here?’ and postponed it to March 3.”
It is recalled that in the post Mr. Papaggelis made earlier, he argues that “we swore to turn the world upside down to vindicate our children. Ms. Karystianou is doing this because we find walls everywhere and no one listens to us. In all the initiatives she took and many had reacted against, she succeeded in keeping the Tempe crime at the top of social reaction.

We demand justice and truth for our children. We swore to turn the world upside down to vindicate them. Ms. Karystianou is doing this, because we find walls everywhere, no one listens to us.
In all the initiatives she took, and although many had reacted, she succeeded in keeping the Tempe crime at the top of social reaction for injustice and cover-up.
With this action – establishing a party, body or movement – if she succeeds, we will find ourselves in decision centers and will be more effective in our goal. If this also fails, then we can only self-immolate in Syntagma Square and still they won’t care.
The people involved will play a crucial role and we should not forget all those who came beside us from the beginning, practically, humanely, not for votes, like Ms. Konstantopoulou, Mr. Velopoulos, Mr. Natsios, Mr. Kasselakis and other personalities from other parties.
All together we might succeed.
But what am I telling you now!
