Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has declared that his presidential term will conclude in 2030, emphasizing that the question of his departure from office has been “settled and will not be up for discussion.” He also confirmed that there will be no further amendments to Egypt’s constitution. Al-Sisi, who has held power since 2014, secured the ability to remain in the presidency until 2030 following constitutional amendments approved by the Egyptian parliament in 2019.
Al-Sisi: “I will not leave the state without capable successors”
“I am saying this more than 40 months in advance, so that no one can claim I am preparing a family member or relative to take over… No, no, no. Nothing of the sort. This is a very great country and such things cannot happen here.” “I will not leave the Egyptian state before it is filled with people capable of shouldering the responsibility,” he added, noting that a new generation of leaders is currently being groomed through the Egyptian Military Academy. Should he complete his current term, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi will have served as president for 16 consecutive years.
“It is completely unacceptable for us to hear that Saudi Arabia or its security and stability are being threatened”
Furthermore, despite Egypt not being a member of the Mecca Agreement, al-Sisi announced Egypt’s readiness to defend Saudi Arabia, which has been engaged in conflict with the Houthis. “We are not seeking to assume any role, but it is completely unacceptable for us to hear that Saudi Arabia or its security and stability are being threatened. Egypt, in accordance with the directives of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, will take all necessary measures to protect and defend you,” al-Sisi stated emphatically.
“I hope the Egyptian parliament will convene an emergency session to approve such action, should we be called upon to act.”
