Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have announced that they struck a Togo-flagged oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, with the announcement carried by Iran’s official state news agency IRNA. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated the vessel was stopped after catching fire following what it described as an attempted illegal passage through the strategic waterway.
“The tanker Trend, flying the Togolese flag, was hit and brought to a halt after fire broke out” aboard the vessel, according to the statement, which characterized the incident as an attempt at “unauthorized transit” through the Strait.
Iran’s IRGC Navy said a Togo-flagged tanker, Trend, was hit and stopped after catching fire while attempting to illegally cross the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC warned that any unauthorized vessel passage through the strategic waterway would result in the “destruction” of the vessel.

It is worth noting that on Thursday evening, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) — the maritime security alert service operating under the British Ministry of Defence — reported a “security incident in the Strait of Hormuz, 16 nautical miles (approximately 30 kilometers) northeast of Khasab, Oman.” The agency added that the crew was “safe” and that no “environmental impact” had been detected.
Notably, UKMTO did not specify which vessel was involved, leaving it unclear whether the incident referred to the same ship that the Revolutionary Guards claimed to have struck.
