A shocking murder case involving a newborn baby has shaken Britain, as five individuals now face charges — including the victim’s 20-year-old mother. The incident took place in Sheffield and represents one of the most horrifying cases of violence against a child ever recorded in the country.

The shocking findings of the forensic examination
According to the forensic investigation published by the Daily Mail, the newborn girl had sustained 33 wounds from 15 stab wounds. The infant, referred to in court documents as “Baby S,” was found dead in a makeshift structure in the early hours of Sunday, August 30. The horrific killing of the baby had taken place just hours after her birth.
The defendants charged in the Sheffield baby murder case
The primary defendant charged with the murder of the infant is 20-year-old Andrea Scopova, who appeared in court on Wednesday. The young woman had given birth to the baby at 37 weeks of pregnancy, while the identity of the father remains unknown.
Appearing in court alongside Scopova were:
- Peter Horvath Junior, 19, the mother’s partner
- Nina Horvathova, 37, the partner’s mother
- Peter Horvath, 38, the partner’s father
- A 15-year-old girl, whose identity has not been made public
The charges, remand in custody, and destruction of evidence
The four adult defendants face charges of causing or allowing the death of a child, as well as perverting the course of justice by cleaning the crime scene. The 15-year-old is charged solely with perverting the course of justice. All defendants are Slovak nationals and have been remanded in custody. Meanwhile, two women aged 26 and 37, who had previously been arrested as suspects in the murder, remain free on bail. Nina Horvathova and the 15-year-old defendant are alleged to have cleaned blood from the bathroom in an attempt to conceal evidence of the killing. According to the British newspaper, an eight-year-old child was also present in the home at the time of the crime. The case continues in the UK, with authorities investigating every aspect of this tragic story that has deeply shaken public opinion.
The events of the deadly night
Hospital staff discovered that the infant was no longer in Scopova’s womb and immediately alerted police shortly after 5 a.m. Officers located the newborn a short time later at the family home. According to evidence gathered during the investigation, the mother stabbed the baby in the bathroom immediately after giving birth. She then wrapped the infant in a towel and placed her in a blue bag, leaving her on top of a washing machine — where she was subsequently discovered by authorities.
