Russia is considering intensifying ballistic missile attacks against Kyiv, as Moscow believes that efforts to reach a peace agreement in Ukraine have reached a deadlock. The information was reported by Bloomberg News, citing three sources familiar with discussions inside the Kremlin.
Russia puts escalation of strikes on Kyiv on the table
According to Bloomberg, among the scenarios under consideration are intensified ballistic missile strikes on the Ukrainian capital, potentially targeting locations in central Kyiv. Critical infrastructure in other parts of Ukraine could also be placed in the crosshairs.
The same sources link the Kremlin discussions to the state of negotiations aimed at ending the war. Moscow considers the talks to have reached a stalemate — a development that appears to be fueling scenarios of further military escalation.
At the same time, according to Bloomberg, Vladimir Putin appears undeterred by the sanctions imposed on Russia or by Ukrainian strikes against Russian oil refineries and supply networks.
Russia: Ukrainian attacks on warehouses
The reports of potentially intensified Russian strikes come as Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian territory continue. Overnight, Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles struck a warehouse belonging to Russian e-commerce giant Wildberries in the Tambov region.
The regional governor, Yevgeny Pervishov, reported that two people were injured in the attack, and that the warehouse was “completely destroyed.”
Earlier, he had announced that the flames had engulfed approximately 100,000 square meters — an area equivalent to roughly 14 football pitches.
More than 20 warehouses have come under attack
Attacks on facilities belonging to major Russian e-commerce companies have intensified in recent weeks. Ukraine began striking Wildberries warehouses in mid-July, and in recent days the attacks expanded to include facilities belonging to Ozon, Russia’s second-largest online retailer.
According to satellite imagery analysis by Reuters, more than 20 Wildberries and Ozon warehouses have been hit. These facilities cover a combined area of approximately 1.9 million square meters, with many having sustained extensive damage from fires that broke out following the strikes.
The prospect of a fresh escalation in Russian attacks — should Bloomberg’s reports be confirmed and a decision taken in Moscow — comes at a time when both sides are intensifying strikes against strategic and economic targets, while diplomatic efforts to find a way out of the conflict appear to be running into serious obstacles.
