One person was seriously injured after a freight train derailed and fell from a bridge in Munich during the early hours of Friday to Saturday (June 20), police announced. According to reports, two carriages of the train plunged from the bridge and landed on a road approximately five meters below.
The cargo being carried by the train remains unknown at this time, however police confirmed that no hazardous materials were involved and stated that there is no risk to the general public. It has not yet been determined how long the recovery operation will take to retrieve the fallen carriages. Part of the road network may remain closed until Sunday (June 21).

The accident occurred on a section of track used exclusively by freight trains, according to a spokesperson for Deutsche Bahn, Germany’s largest railway operator. Passenger services are therefore not expected to be affected.
