«Verify before believing and think before sharing» is the message sent by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, following the circulation of a deepfake photo showing her in underwear in bed. In a related post where she shared the manipulated image, she humorously commented that they had “improved” her appearance. At the same time, she emphasized the need to strengthen awareness against the growing danger of disinformation, which is now increasingly spread through artificially created images and videos, products of modern artificial intelligence tools.

«Various fake photos of me are circulating these days, created with artificial intelligence, which are being passed off as real. I must admit that whoever made them, at least in the case attached, has improved me quite a bit. However, the fact remains that literally anything is now being used to attack and fabricate lies. The issue, however, goes beyond me. Deepfakes are a dangerous tool because they can deceive, manipulate, and harm anyone. I can defend myself. Many others cannot. That’s why one rule should always apply: verify before believing and think before sharing. Because what happens to me today could happen to anyone tomorrow».
