Horror has gripped Brazil with the case of 5-year-old Maria Clara Aguirre Lisboa, who was buried alive by her mother and stepfather in a grave covered with cement in their backyard. Authorities have arrested the girl’s mother, Luiza Aguirre Barbosa da Silva, and stepfather, Rodrigo Ribeiro Machado, who according to investigations have confessed their involvement in the crime.
Shocking forensic findings in the murder of 5-year-old in Brazil
The forensic examination concludes that the child’s death resulted from mechanical asphyxiation connected to burial. Particular significance is given to the discovery of soil in the respiratory tract, evidence that reinforces the possibility that the child was still alive at the time of burial. Additionally, there are indications of head injuries, estimated to have been caused before death, possibly from being struck with an object. The 5-year-old’s body was discovered around mid-October 2025 in an advanced state of decomposition, while investigators’ estimates place the death approximately three weeks earlier.

Allegations of abuse against the 5-year-old by her stepfather
The case began to unfold when the girl’s grandfather reported her disappearance to authorities. Social services already had indications of problems in the family environment, as there were reports of threats from the stepfather. During the investigation, authorities discovered an audio message from the accused to the child’s biological father, in which he claimed the girl was dead, demanding all communication cease. The two defendants face charges of homicide with aggravating circumstances and concealment of a corpse, while additional allegations of abuse against the minor and mother are being examined. Judicial authorities have scheduled new proceedings for May, where the hearing process is expected to continue.
