The Greek government is now adopting a firm and assertive tone toward Turkey, with Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Giorgos Gerapetritis making clear that maintaining open communication channels with Ankara does not mean tolerating moves that challenge Greek sovereign rights. The prime minister set the tone during a Cabinet meeting, stressing that “reactions from the East” will not influence Greece’s strategic planning. “Areas of Greek sovereignty are indisputable — we are ready to defend them at any moment,” he stated.
The Mitsotakis and Gerapetritis message to Ankara
Kyriakos Mitsotakis noted that Athens seeks good-neighborly relations with Turkey, but made clear that Greece will not discuss anything beyond the delimitation of the continental shelf and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean. For his part, Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis, speaking in an interview on Open TV, underlined that Greece will continue its dialogue with Turkey, however “calm waters” are not an end in themselves.
