The new sectoral spokespersons of the Parliamentary Group of SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance have been announced, with Rena Dourou taking on the portfolios of Foreign Affairs and National Defense, while a number of MPs are assuming responsibility for more than one policy area. The new structure of the SYRIZA-PA Parliamentary Group was finalized during its session, with the designation of members taking on key parliamentary roles.
SYRIZA announces new parliamentary group spokespersons
In detail, according to the decisions reached, Rena Dourou will serve as spokesperson for both the Foreign Affairs and National Defense sectors.
Theophilos Xanthopoulos takes on the Interior sector, as well as Rural Development and Food. Pavlos Polakis is assigned to Transparency and Health, while Nikos Pappas assumes responsibility for the Economy and Development sector, along with Maritime Affairs and Island Policy.
Yannis Amanatidis is appointed to the Education and Sports sector, while Theodora Akriotou takes on Culture alongside the Migration and Asylum sector.
Giorgos Papailou assumes three portfolios: Citizen Protection, Justice, and Labor and Social Security. Similarly, Christos Giannoulis takes on the Transport and Infrastructure sector, as well as Energy and Environment.
Elena Akrita is assigned to Rights and Equality, Digital Policy, and Welfare and Social Cohesion, while Yannis Karipidis takes on the Climate Crisis and Civil Protection sector, along with Tourism.
Parliamentary roles
Alongside the allocation of policy sectors, positions of responsibility within the SYRIZA Parliamentary Group were also decided. With this new distribution of duties, SYRIZA is seeking to organize its parliamentary presence along thematic lines, with several members simultaneously taking on more than one area of responsibility.
Specifically, Yannis Amanatidis will serve as Secretary of the Parliamentary Group, while Natasa Gkara has been appointed as its Director.
Finally, Christos Giannoulis and Theophilos Xanthopoulos will serve as parliamentary spokespersons, with a defined allocation of the Parliament’s Standing Committees. Christos Giannoulis will be responsible for the Standing Committees on Economic Affairs, Social Affairs, and Production and Trade. Theophilos Xanthopoulos will oversee the Standing Committees on Educational Affairs, Public Administration, Public Order and Justice, as well as National Defense and Foreign Affairs.
