In a new social media post, Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis launched an attack against PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis, attempting to dismantle the narrative of a “massive scandal” surrounding the procurement of green recycling kiosks. Georgiadis notes that the opposition’s criticism was based on a report by EDEL (the Public Financial Control Committee), which claimed that the actual cost per unit should have been €60,000 rather than €300,000. However, as revealed by a report in the newspaper “Manifesto” — which the Minister shares in his post — competitor company Tomra had submitted a bid of €332,072 (€267,000 plus VAT) per recycling hub.

With the difference between the two bids amounting to just 5%, the Minister questions where exactly the scandal lies, accusing the opposition of manipulating public opinion for months on end. At the same time, the article — which Georgiadis deliberately amplifies online — turns its sights on Nikos Androulakis, raising questions about his ties to Tomra’s legal representative in Greece, Nikos Kosmidis — son of Sokratis Kosmidis, who served for years as Secretary of the Council of Ministers in the governments of Costas Simitis — and accusing him of embracing baseless allegations.

“For many days — I’d even say months — we’ve been hearing and reading about the ‘massive scandal’ involving the green recycling kiosks. The entire narrative rests on the claim that these kiosks cost €300,000 when they should have cost €60,000, based on an EDEL (Public Financial Control Committee) report. But now it is being revealed that Tomra, the competitor of Texan, had not offered €60,000 either — its bid was €267,000 plus VAT, i.e. €332,000. So where exactly is the scandal? You have two companies, and the difference between them is 5% — meaning their prices are essentially the same. Why was this entire picture constructed? For those unfamiliar, EDEL imposes corrections on almost all projects and frequently changes its position afterwards — does that make everything a scandal? It has neither the authority nor the capacity to carry out a genuine cost assessment.
But here there is one key question: public opinion has been manipulated for months with the narrative that we could have acquired these units for €60,000 and instead paid €300,000 — and now it turns out that the second bid was also €332,000. Something is very wrong with this whole story… I will return to this.”
