Thanasis Avgerinos fired back with a sharp post on platform X following Maria Karystianou’s decision to expel him from her party, “Hope for Democracy.” Accompanying his post with the cover of Antonis Samarakis’ book Wanted: Hope, he wrote the phrase “God blinds those whom He wishes to destroy”, adding in a postscript: “Let’s read printed books on holiday. They educate, console, and protect us from egomanias…” — a clear dig at the party’s leader.

Karystianou expels Avgerinos from the party
Earlier, Maria Karystianou had moved to expel her party’s former spokesperson. She accused him of “divisive statements and behavior” that reveal a “hidden agenda of sabotage and control.”
Ms. Karystianou’s official statement:
“The divisive statements and behavior of Athanasios Avgerinos against the Hope for Democracy Movement, combined with a series of actions and public positions that violated the Movement’s fundamental principle of excluding cooperation with established political parties, undermine the unity of the Movement, reveal a hidden agenda of sabotage and control, and therefore result in his expulsion from it.
I address all citizens with love and ask you to safeguard our unity, so that the Community of Citizens may achieve great things.”
