Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis opened his address to the Cabinet by paying tribute to the three firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty, expressing the government’s deep grief and emphasizing the urgent need to further strengthen the country’s resilience against the increasingly severe consequences of the climate crisis.
The Prime Minister then outlined the government’s policy priorities, with seven major reforms at the center of today’s Cabinet meeting at Maximos Mansion. The agenda includes, among other items, the launch of a feasibility process for exploring nuclear energy, a national water strategy, and a review of the government’s legislative program for the second half of the year — all aimed at demonstrating that the administration continues to press ahead with its reform agenda without interruption.

“We express our deepest grief. The state honors them, stands by their families, and is strengthening its actions so that Greece can defend itself ever more effectively against the climate crisis,” the Prime Minister said.
“France and Spain are battling mega-fires — we have assisted them. Greece played a leading role in Europe in securing an agreement to restart the Canadair production line, and Greece will receive the first aircraft in 2028. We still have difficult days ahead — I am asking everyone for the utmost vigilance,” he added.
The Cyprus issue
On the latest developments regarding the Cyprus issue, Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed: “Greek diplomacy, alongside Cypriot diplomacy, has made great efforts to restart informal talks. This represents an interesting development after a long period of stagnation, with the prospect of an expanded Conference under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General marking a serious step in the right direction.”
