Greece’s Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, sent a clear message to those who choose the path of crime and carry out illegal acts that take the lives of innocent citizens. Speaking from Crete, the minister’s statement was prompted by the recent arrests connected to the deadly arson attack against Vagia Nestora, as well as the identification of two individuals implicated in the Marfin tragedy, in which three people lost their lives 16 years ago.
Chrysochoidis: “Democracy takes a blow, but Democracy is strong and prevails”
While on the island for the inauguration of the new Messara Police Sub-Directorate in Moires, the minister commented on the significant developments in both cases, stating: “Our Democracy is very strong — our Democracy always wins in the end.”
He continued: “Democracy does not win through revenge. Its victories are about vindication and the delivery of justice, which must take place every time within the framework of the Constitution and the laws. No crime, no taking of a life, can go without justice being served.”
He further added that “it is unacceptable for some people to have granted themselves the privilege of attempting to intimidate others. When that happens, Democracy takes a blow — but Democracy, today as in the past, and even more so tomorrow, is strong and prevails. This is our answer to those unrepentant individuals who turn themselves into murderers, who attempt to carry out illegal acts that take the lives of innocent people, as happened recently in Thessaloniki with the Nestora family,” the Minister of Citizen Protection concluded.
