The case of the shocking double murder in Foinikounta is gradually unfolding, with new developments raising questions about the actions of the two 22-year-old alleged perpetrators of the double murder, who continue to blame each other, while authorities’ investigations focus on the possibility of additional accomplices.
Many ambiguities arise from the testimonies and descriptions, both from the two young men accused of the double homicide and from the 33-year-old nephew of the 68-year-old camping owner, who was found dead along with his foreman on October 5. The nephew, the sole eyewitness, had identified one of the perpetrators, whom, as it was revealed, he already knew.
Foinikounta: The intense dialogue between perpetrators in Athens after the murder
According to Live News, a new revelation came to light regarding the two 22-year-olds accused – one of murder and the other of complicity. These are two friends who, after the murders, left the Messinia camping site, went separate ways, and ended up in Athens.
As the alleged executor reported, the two met in Athens and had an intense dialogue about the murder. As he emphasized, the 22-year-old accomplice revealed that he had a known person inside the camping site – possibly referring to the nephew of one victim – something the executor didn’t know.
“He got on the motorcycle and told me that s*** happened, I told him to get off and continued on the road. He went to Athens and I called him to meet. We went for coffee and I remember exactly the dialogue we had. I told him ‘they’re showing the motorcycle and me on the channels, they’ll find us, we need to go to the police’.
He replied ‘don’t worry, we’ll see what we do,’ then I asked him ‘where are you getting me involved? We need to go to the police.’ Then he explained to me that ‘entering the camping I recognized someone. I’ll fix it, I know someone from inside,'” revealed the 22-year-old alleged executor of the double murder.
“I didn’t notify the nephew, I didn’t want to get involved”
At the same time, authorities are examining all possibilities for potential involvement of more suspects in the crime that has shaken Messinia. Both the 68-year-old’s nephew and his partner, as well as his friend who was also the employer of the two 22-year-old defendants, have given their testimonies to find the “thread” of the case.
As it became known, the 22-year-old accomplice worked at a shop in Kolonaki, which the 68-year-old’s nephew frequented and had friendly relations with the owner. The employer had introduced the 22-year-old accomplice to the nephew, because the former admired the lifestyle of the 32-year-old due to the expensive cars and clothes he had.
“The 22-year-old had met the nephew at my shop. He was impressed and admired him for his financial situation, seeing him smoke cigars and have an expensive car. Before the murder, I had seen the nephew 3-4 times. I think at the shop he had also seen the 22-year-old and they had greeted each other. The 22-year-old wasn’t working during the days the attempts occurred,” the employer of the 22-year-old alleged accomplice said in his testimony.
After the double murder, the nephew, due to their close relationship, contacted the employer and told him “they killed my uncle, I’m scared, come help me.”
Meanwhile, when the nephew and eyewitness was called by authorities to identify the perpetrator, he pointed to the 22-year-old accomplice whom he saw at the camping site on the fateful Sunday night. Then he called the employer again and informed him that the perpetrator was his 22-year-old employee.
“When I was called to the police for identification and I identified the 22-year-old accomplice, I called the employer and friend and told him it was his employee. He replied: ‘Yes, I figured it out, I would have told you,’ but he hadn’t called me to tell me anything earlier,” the nephew said.
For his part, the friend of the 33-year-old nephew described things a little differently before and after the double murder: “When they called to tell me what happened at the camping, I was shocked. I thought they were joking.
When I saw the photo with the two on the scooter, I recognized the (accomplice), but I didn’t call the nephew to tell him, because he had told me he would come to Athens to make the identifications. I didn’t tell him anything because I didn’t want to get involved. These two kids, I don’t consider them capable of doing all this.”
“I had only seen the victim in photos, I didn’t want to invest in anything in the Messinia area,” says the perpetrators’ employer
At the same time, the employer of the 22-year-olds revealed about the camping owner who was murdered: “I had never met the 68-year-old uncle of the 33-year-old, I had only seen him through photos and videos. The nephew trusted me and told me about his business plans. However, I didn’t want to invest in anything in the Messinia area.
I knew the uncle had other preferences and that he made inappropriate comments to young boys. From descriptions I considered him scum because all this was contrary to my own beliefs,” revealed the employer of the 22-year-old accomplice and friend of the nephew – the sole witness to the murder.
