A shocking matricide occurred today at noon in Trikala when an 18-year-old called the police and said he had strangled his mother. “I killed my mother, come arrest me,” he told authorities, explaining: “I killed her because she abused me psychologically and physically,” according to the Star news report by Dimitra Tziotziou.

Police patrol cars and an ambulance rushed to the scene. Officers who arrived at the woman’s house found her dead in the living room, along with the 18-year-old perpetrator. According to Star reports, he allegedly told them that they were watching TV together when he got up to go to the bathroom. He took a towel, returned to the living room and strangled his mother from behind while the 57-year-old was sitting on the couch.

According to the same sources, he reportedly told police that he had been thinking about killing her for a long time. Neighbors are shocked, describing him as a good and polite child who, however, did not visit his mother often in the village of Flamouli.
There is no history of domestic violence, while the 18-year-old allegedly told police he was bullied at school because his parents had divorced. His parents had separated years ago and the 18-year-old lived with his father. He also has a sister who lives alone in Volos. Neighbors told police they heard many arguments between the mother and son every time he came to visit her, as he disapproved of her actions and behavior.
Police notified the forensic medical service in Larissa and sent photographic evidence. Based on marks visible around the woman’s neck, they initially confirmed asphyxiation as the cause of death. The marks confirm the 18-year-old’s description of how he killed his mother. The teenager has no history of psychiatric problems. Police are investigating the perpetrator’s motive and the conditions that prevailed in the house between mother and son. The body of the unfortunate 57-year-old will be transferred to the Forensic Medical Service in Larissa.
