The president of the Anti-Money Laundering Authority, honorary Deputy Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Charalampos Vourliotis, has ordered the freezing of all assets belonging to the defendants in two major tax fraud cases recently uncovered in Greece. The order covers the totality of assets, bank accounts, and safe deposit boxes held by the accused, who are alleged to be involved in both the case concerning the Pizza Fan chain and the one centered on the “To Choriatiko” bakery chain.
However, payroll bank accounts are explicitly excluded from the asset freeze, in order to ensure that employees continue to receive their wages and that their labor rights are not put at risk. The Authority has taken special measures to protect workers by specifically exempting these accounts from the freezing order. The same approach is expected to be applied to the payroll accounts of employees working at the “To Choriatiko” bakery chain, ensuring that workers — who bear no personal responsibility for the alleged offenses — will not suffer the consequences of the ongoing investigation.
