A silent and informal vigil is underway at the Third Cemetery of Nikaia, where dozens of people have gathered at the site where Giorgos Mazonakis was laid to rest. Holding flowers and handwritten notes, with phones in hand and the beloved artist’s songs playing softly from small speakers, fans and passersby alike have formed a great embrace around his grave.

Most of those present speak of what they describe as the tragically unjust way the singer lost his life, while sharing personal moments and cherished memories from the times they had the chance to meet him.

The scene at Giorgos Mazonakis’s grave is deeply moving: a towering “mountain” of flowers and handwritten notes has now formed, left by the many who came to honour his memory.
