A sudden scare unfolded at around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday (August 20) in the heart of Thessaloniki, as a section of a first-floor balcony collapsed from an old building at 33 Balanou Street. The incident caused material damage to a parked car directly below, while a glass storefront of a neighboring shop was also shattered. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The loud crash sent nearby residents and shopkeepers rushing out into the street to see what had happened.

“It sounded like a loud bang, like an earthquake,” a local resident described
Speaking to voria.gr, a man recounted that he and others were dining at a nearby restaurant when they suddenly heard a “loud bang, like an earthquake.” He added: “Just moments earlier, a woman had tried to park in the exact spot where the balcony fell, but she changed her mind and drove away. Three minutes later, it collapsed.”
