The parents of an 18-year-old who was stabbed by a 23-year-old man in Agios Dimitrios during an attempted robbery have broken their silence, describing the harrowing moments their son endured. The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon (18/08/2026) at the intersection of Menelaou and Psiloritis streets, where the 23-year-old approached the teenager and, according to the victim, demanded he hand over everything he had on him. Using a box cutter, the attacker struck the young man twice — once in the face and once in the back. The victim required 10 stitches and remains hospitalized.

Agios Dimitrios stabbing: Parents of 18-year-old victim speak out after knife attack by 23-year-old
The 18-year-old remains in hospital following the knife attack, as his mother broke down in an emotional interview with Mega TV, recounting how her son called her moments after being stabbed. “He called me right away. ‘Mum, run — I’ve been stabbed.’ I look at my phone, I think, ‘Is that my son? Is this some kind of joke?’ He says, ‘Mum, run.’ The ground fell out from under our feet.” The attacker, she insists, was not merely trying to rob her child — he wanted to kill him: “I don’t care whether he wanted to rob him or whatever — he went there to kill him. My son was on his way to football training, just walking down the street, two or three minutes from the stadium, and this man came up from behind and decided, just like that, to take his life.” She added: “Today my child escaped. What about tomorrow? The day after? Another child? A grandmother? A grandfather? One bad day, one bad moment — he nearly lost his life. But he’s alive, thank God, he’s out of danger.“
The boy’s father, speaking to Star TV, described the attack in disturbing detail: “He pulled out a knife and said, ‘Give me everything you’ve got.’ Then he plunged the knife into his head. After that they struggled. His backpack fell off — it had his football boots and kit inside. Then he stabbed the other knife into his back.“
