The situation is extremely dire along the massive fire front stretching from the Vilia area toward Megara, as the wildfire has grown dramatically in recent hours with flames burning dangerously close to residential homes in Veniza. Strong winds are severely hampering firefighting efforts, while fire crews continue to battle the blaze across multiple fronts in a desperate bid to contain its spread.
Mayor of Megara: “The fire is out of control — there are multiple fronts”
Speaking exclusively to parapolitika.gr, the Mayor of Megara, Panagiotis Margetis, painted a dramatic picture of the situation unfolding across the region.
“Things are extremely difficult. The fire is out of control. There are multiple fronts — in Veniza, in the Industrial Zone, and in Loupa. The situation has deteriorated since this morning. The Canadair aircraft are not operating,” he stated.
According to the Fire Service, one active front is located in the area of Agia Paraskevi and Kryo Pigadi, where crews are fighting to prevent further spread, while a second front is advancing toward the Megara area — specifically toward the Kandilio firing range. Operations are continuing under extremely challenging conditions, with authorities remaining on heightened alert.
