A 28-year-old man of Turkish origin has been remanded in custody following his court appearance, after being charged with the cold-blooded murder of a 25-year-old fellow countryman that took place on June 13, 2026, in Exarchia.
Exarchia murder: The “death contract” and the 1 million payment
According to the case file, the accused allegedly undertook the execution of a “death contract,” for which he was set to receive 1 million Turkish lira as payment from a Turkish criminal organization.
During his court appearance, he reportedly confessed to the act. According to his defense attorney, Vasiliki Zografidou, he claimed he had been subjected to intense pressure and threats against his family by fellow Turkish nationals. He also alleged that on the day of the murder, he was under the influence of narcotics.
Through his defense, the 28-year-old submitted a request for a psychiatric evaluation to assess his mental state at the time of the crime. His claims are expected to be examined during the main judicial investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.
