Members of the Alexandras Avenue refugee housing community have announced the end of the hunger strike carried out by Aristotelis Chatzis and Suzon Doppagne. “We officially declare the end of the hunger strike and the continuation of our struggle through other means,” community representatives stated during a rally held on Wednesday afternoon (24/06) at Syntagma Square. The decision was reached following discussions with both hunger strikers as well as members of the broader community.

Speaking at the Syntagma Square rally, representatives stated among other things: “Under these circumstances, and having consulted with our comrades Aristos and Suzan as well as among our community, we officially declare the end of the hunger strike and the continuation of our struggle through other means.” The announcement came after the Athens City Council had passed a resolution calling for the hunger strike to be brought to an end.
