New developments are being recorded in the case of the double murder in Aigio, with victims being a 54-year-old woman and her 26-year-old son, as the 65-year-old defendant was ordered to remain in pretrial detention. The defendant, an Italian citizen and partner of the woman, continues to deny the charges, insisting on his innocence, despite the decision of the judicial authorities. During his testimony before the investigator, he initially tried to attribute the incident to other factors, while later presenting a different version of the events that unfolded inside the house in the Longos area.
While initially the 65-year-old attempted to attribute the double murder to other external factors before the investigator, he later, in order to justify the position where the body of 26-year-old Olympios was found inside the house in Aigio, claimed that the 54-year-old woman, after fatally wounding her son, self-inflicted 20 stab wounds with the knife.
In his testimony, the 65-year-old tried to explain how from 7 in the morning when he woke up, until 11 when he allegedly found the bodies, he did not search for his partner and the 26-year-old, while describing the crime scene in detail. “I went straight inside to the bed where Olympios was covered. I lifted the blanket and saw something dark on his head and a black stain. I went crazy. I went outside, walked around the house in a state of madness and called her brother, shouting for him to come quickly. While waiting for him to arrive, I called my sister who is in Italy and told her that Maria and Olympios were dead,” he said according to Alpha.
Despite the claims of the Italian defendant, the forensic examiner has identified defensive wounds on the hands of the 54-year-old, which directly contradicts the suicide scenario and indicates a struggle. For their part, the victims’ relatives declare absolute certainty about the guilt of the 65-year-old, with the defendant himself emphasizing as a defensive element that he supported the family with his pension, while his partner worked rarely.
“I supported our family all these years with my pension of 1,500 euros. I worked for an Italian news agency. Maria worked rarely and only occasionally,” the 65-year-old claimed.
According to information, within the next 10 days, the Italian’s defense lawyers are expected to request replacement of the restrictive conditions, namely his temporary detention, with other conditions or will even proceed with an appeal, requesting that the 65-year-old be released.
This, pending the opening of the victims’ medical files, so that the 65-year-old’s lawyers can prove that the 54-year-old faced such serious psychological problems that the murder of her son and self-inflicting 20 stab wounds would be “justified,” which would prove the innocence of her partner, which he insists upon.
Aigio: “Someone gave me something to drink so I wouldn’t wake up,” says the 65-year-old Italian
The 65-year-old arrived at the courthouse shortly after 10 AM on Saturday (13/6) and remained for about four hours in the investigator’s office regarding the double murder of the 54-year-old and 26-year-old inside their home in Longos, Aigio. Before answering her questions, he submitted a multi-page, 16-page memorandum, while his answers to the investigator’s questions exceeded 20 pages in total.
During his testimony, he categorically denied any involvement in the murder of his partner and her son, insisting that there was no financial motive behind the crime.
“It was clear in the family that the grandmother wanted to give the house and land to her grandson. Nothing to do with any alleged financial motive. I was in love with Maria and still am. When Maria faced problems, I ‘ran’ to help her. In Italy, I stayed four months with her. I love my woman and my child,” he reportedly claimed.
According to his claims, at the time of the murder he was sleeping in a different room of the house and noticed nothing, only when he woke up and found his partner and her son dead. Speaking to the investigator and prosecutor, the 65-year-old reportedly claimed that possibly someone had given him something to drink, which is why he couldn’t perceive what exactly had happened, what was going on around him.
As he told the judicial officials, he had fallen into such a deep sleep that he couldn’t hear commotion happening inside the house and a double murder.
The evidence police are examining
Meanwhile, Greek Police investigations are in full development, with authorities awaiting results from criminological laboratories on evidence collected at the crime scene.
Particular emphasis is placed on finding a blood stain from the 54-year-old on the shotgun being examined as part of the investigation, an element that, according to authorities’ assessments, may indicate a struggle between the victim and perpetrator.
Simultaneously, the 65-year-old’s vehicle is being searched for possible blood traces, while camera recording systems are considered crucial as they might reveal if his jeep was moved on the night of the double murder.
It’s worth noting that the unfortunate woman’s mobile phone has not been located so far, as police only found the cover of an older device.
The timeline
On Tuesday afternoon (09.06.2026) the 54-year-old mother and her 26-year-old son were found inside their home in Aigialeia, in a pool of blood. The two bodies were found in different areas of the house. The woman had received multiple stab wounds, while police estimates suggest a struggle had preceded, something that appears to be confirmed both by the scene they encountered when entering the room and by broken furniture.
It’s very difficult to determine the motive so far, precisely because the defendant denies any involvement in the double homicide. The young man also had stab wounds but also a gunshot wound to the head. In fact, according to the investigation, he was murdered first, while sleeping.
A forensic examiner was called for the incident, while security cameras confirmed that there were no signs of burglary or presence of a third person in the house, nor were money and valuables missing. Authorities immediately located the 54-year-old’s partner, who is not the biological father of the 26-year-old, and proceeded with his arrest.
He claimed that on the night of the double murder he was sleeping in the living room, heard nothing, not even gunshots, and found the bodies of his partner and her 26-year-old son around 11 AM on Tuesday. Then he notified a friend who went to the house and subsequently police were called.
As part of the investigation, authorities brought in the 65-year-old Italian partner of the 54-year-old as he is considered the main suspect for the double murder. According to information, the 65-year-old notified his neighbors that he found the two victims dead, while claiming to authorities that he was sleeping, heard nothing, and was not involved in the crime.
Police found in the house freshly washed and hung in the yard underwear belonging to the 65-year-old and a towel with stains, probably blood. When asked by police why he didn’t put the clothes in the laundry basket or washing machine, he gave no convincing answer, only mentioning that he got dirty. That’s why he showered, washed and hung the clothes.
The motives for the double homicide remain unclear so far. However, according to information, relatives of the woman told authorities that there might have been problems in the couple’s relationship. Information indicates that the woman had expressed concern to her 26-year-old son, who lived in Germany where he studied and worked, asking him to return to Greece. The young man had arrived in the country just two days before the crime.
