Authorities are on operational alert for the identification and arrest of two more members connected to the Hamas network. These two members belong to the same organization as the 37-year-old who was arrested recently in Agios Nikolaos, Crete, in a case that has raised serious security concerns for the country’s authorities.
Hamas: First member remains in Greece, network facilitator sought in Cyprus
According to reliable sources from official circles, the first of the two wanted individuals remains in Greece. Security services estimate that his identification will be completed within the coming days, as investigations have made significant progress. The second individual, who has already been identified by authorities, is being sought in Cyprus and reportedly plays a central role in the network. Specifically, this person operated as a connecting link, bringing the 37-year-old arrested in Crete into contact with one of the two previously arrested on the island of Cyprus. The same individual is reportedly responsible for organizing the network members’ travel to Malaysia. The purpose of this trip was to train them in constructing explosive devices using chemical materials as well as household products like cleaning agents and detergents.
The 37-year-old’s equipment orders, deadline to testify, and charges
During interrogation, the arrested 37-year-old admitted to making two orders of materials. Initially, he ordered online a precision analytical laboratory scale and a laboratory magnetic stirrer with heated plate. These were still in their boxes in the apartment where he was staying, on 3rd September Street in Patisia. The second order involved chemical materials, which, as he claimed, he had not yet received.
The arrested 37-year-old faces felony and misdemeanor charges including:
- Formation and participation in a terrorist organization.
- Receiving training in manufacturing and using explosives for conducting terrorist acts.
- Undertaking travel to attend training for committing terrorist acts.
- Criminal support for terrorist purposes.
He is reportedly preparing a terrorist attack targeting Israeli interests. Currently, he has been given a deadline to testify on Thursday.
