Firefighters managed to bring under control the fire that broke out early Thursday morning in an apartment in Drapetsona, which caused great disturbance in the area. It is recalled that in the early hours of Thursday (21/05) a major fire broke out in a 4-story apartment building in the Drapetsona area, while 20 firefighters with 6 vehicles and a special ladder truck operated, who managed to extinguish it.

At the scene, the atmosphere was suffocating. Dense smoke hindered firefighters’ efforts, while frantic attempts were made to evacuate the apartments. The smoke was channeled to other apartments causing problems with visibility as well. The fire may have been caused by a gas bottle, however this scenario is still being investigated.
In the first-floor apartment where the fire started, lived an elderly woman and her son. Fortunately, they evacuated in time, as did the majority of the apartment building residents. Meanwhile, firefighters faced several problems as an elderly woman living in a third-floor apartment refused to evacuate her apartment. They had to deploy oxygen bottles to give her first aid and convince her to evacuate. Eventually, the elderly woman followed the firefighters’ orders and she too was evacuated.
